I have been under the care of a Specialist Orthopaedic Consultant for 20 years due to a complex hip condition. During these years I have undergone a number of surgeries and been referred to physio to help manage my pain levels and condition in between and post-surgery.
I have seen quite a few physios during this period of various settings and varying experience. Following a fall in December 2019, yet again I was referred to see a physio. Louise was highly recommended to me and so I decided to follow up on this. I was not disappointed.
My present issue was not my hip this time, but my knee. Immediately I felt at ease with Louise whilst she gathered my lengthy medical history with patience. I didn’t feel rushed and that time pressures were an issue. I felt Louise actively listened, she teased information out of me, recognising I was underplaying my symptoms but was trying my best to manage my ongoing condition too and was committed to improving my health. Louise would explain to me beforehand what she was going to do and used terminology I would understand without being patronised. I felt confident enough to share my own thoughts on my long-term condition that I felt the issue with my knee was linked with my hip, without the fear of being judged. Louise was in agreement with this and I felt very reassured for the first time in many hers my pain was not psychosomatic, there was a link.
After dealing with my knee problem, Louise started treatment on my hip and identified certain hot spots in all the years of physio these hot spots had never been found. Louise explained and prepared me for an increase in pain whilst working on these spots. Yes, it was very painful, but Louise would be led my me and read my body language very well and tentatively put additional pressure on me but in manageable degrees whilst also checking how I was. I felt the pain disperse through my body, but for the first time in years after this treatment I had consecutive days without pain, and I was able to walk without compensation for pain and therefore without a limp!
Louise would recap and double check how I was each week. Louise’s knowledge is vast. If felt very confident in Louise’s ability, she was extremely professional, caring, empathic, she displayed active listening in a non-judgemental way. Louise went above and beyond and wrote a letter to my consultant (which was timely as I had arranged appointment) explaining my coping strategies, and how I would benefit from earlier surgery so I could have a quality of life whilst still relatively young, knowing it is a live long condition.
I would highly recommend Louise for any treatment; I felt I was in safe hands all the time and never once did I feel frightened.
Sue - May 2020
After having received three sessions of Acupuncture by Louise Halliday I am now free from the nerve type pain I was experiencing in my left hand.
At its worst no pain relief worked and I was feeling a real weakness, finding it difficult to pick up a kettle or grip anything. I do experience the occasional 'twinge' but it only lasts for a minute or two. I also have Osteoarthritis in my knee.
I found the Acupuncture also relieved this pain greatly although not completely. Acupuncture was a new experience for me but one I would highly recommend. I will most definitely contact Louise for further treatments if needed.
